William Galton Heather was born in Plymouth, Devon in 1886. He joined the Royal Navy as a Boy 2nd Class in 1904. He served in a number of ships and shore establishments prior to the First World War. During the war he served in HMS Blake and Resolution. He received his RN LSGC in 1919. He was shore pensioned in 1926 and recalled in 1938, serving again until 1940 when he was invalided and again pensioned.
