James Norris Moyse was born in Eastry, Deal, Kent. He joined the Royal Navy in 1899 he served in several different ships and shore establishments prior to the First World War. During the War he served in the King Edward VII class battleship, HMS Dominion. He was awarded his LSGC medal in 1914 and was shore pensioned in 1921.
