John Henry Conway was born in Stratford-on-Avon, Warwickshire. He joined the Warwickshire regiment at Warwick in 1892. He served with the regiment until 1908 in Ceylon, Malta, Egypt and the East Indies. For his service during the Nile Expedition in 1898 he was awarded the Queen’s Sudan Medal and the Khedive’s Sudan medal with clasp “Khartoum”

Conway rejoined his regiment early during WWI and served with the 9th Battalion Royal Warwickshire Regiment. He landed at Gallipoli and was killed in action 10 August 1915. He is commemorated on the Helles Memorial, Turkey.
