Alexander Gibb was born in Aberdeen, Scotland around 1853. He had previous service in the Aberdeen Militia when he joined the 91st Argyllshire Highlanders at Aldershot in January 1871. He was initially assigned regimental number 3894. He soon transferred to the 71st Regiment and remained with what would become the Highland Light Infantry for the remainder of his army service. He was appointed as a Bandsman in 1876. He spent nearly 8 years in Gibraltar and the remainder of his service at home. He was awarded his Long Service and Good Conduct Medal in 1889 – his sole entitlement. Gibb was discharged in 1892.
After his discharge, Gibb moved his family first to Vancouver, British Columbia and then to Yonkers, New York. He passed away there in 1929.
Medal is on original ribbon with an attractive period buckle mount.
