Charles Shepherd joined the 10^th Royal Hussars in 1891. He completed his period of engagement and transferred to the Army Reserve in 1898. Recalled to service in 1899, he served with the 14^th Hussars in South Africa and according to information available online was wounded twice – first in 1900 and again at Muller’s Pass on 24 May 1901. The medal roll indicates that ‘2’ was his local number whilst serving with the 14^th Hussars and explains why the KSA is named as it is. His initial is also incorrect on the roll.
