Colour Serjeant George Vokes was born in Steep, Petersfield, Hampshire. He joined the 67^th Regiment underage at 17 in October 1870. His previous service number was 820.

He was discharged at Winchester 31 December 1902 having completed over 32 years of service with the colours. His conduct and character on discharged was assessed as ‘Exemplary’. Vokes was additionally entitled to an India General Service Medal with clasp Burma 1885-87. While not specifically noted in his service record, Vokes should have also received a Long Service and Good Conduct Medal.
