Queen's South Africa Medal clasps "Cape Colony", "Orange Free State", "Transvaal", "South Africa 1901" named: Orderly J. Mitchell I.Y. H.P. Staff; British War Medal named: Sjt. J. Mitchell S.A.M.C., Colonial Auxiliary Forces Long Service Medal named: No. 283. S. Ser. J. Mitchell. Trans. M.C.
Mitchell served in the Imperial Yeomanry Hospital as an Orderly during the Boer War, being discharged to civil employment in Pretoria. Evidently he either joined in South Africa or decided to stay there following his wartime service. The details surrounding his WWI and other service remain unresearched. Believed to be his full medal entitlement.
These medals were found with the WWI 1914-15 Trio awarded to James Mitchell who served in the AVC, Royal West Kent Regiment and the Rifle Brigade, which is offered by us separately. Presumably the two soldiers were related, however, we have not determined the nature of their family connection.
