India Medal (1895) with clasp "Punjab Frontier 1897-98" renamed in non-standard running script to: 3079. Pte. Geo. Stocks. Middx. Regt.

George Robert Stocks was from Bridlington, Yorkshire. He joined the Middlesex Regiment at Hounslow in 1890. He served with the regiment in the East Indies between 1892-98. He also served in South Africa 1899-1900 and was awarded the QSA with clasps "Cape Colony, Tugela Heights and Relief of Ladysmith".

Only 12 India Medals were awarded to the Middlesex Regiment, mostly to soldiers attached to Field Hospitals. Though Stocks' service record does not record his entitlement to the medal, he did pass his certificate in nursing in 1897 - as did other members of the Middlesex Regiment who received the medal. Although not conclusive, this may be a late-claim medal or a self-awarded example.
