1914-15 Star (CH. 8052 L. Cpl. A. H. Adams. R.M.L.I.)

An interesting archive of items from the career of Alfred Henry Adams who was a long-serving member of the Royal Marines. Born in Lewisham, London in 1876, Adams joined the RM in 1894 and served in various ships and shore establishments before the First World War. He was in HMS Theseus 1896-97 and his service record indicates he was in the Flying Column in the expedition against Benin City - for which he was awarded the East and West Africa Medal. During the Boxer Rebellion he served in HMS Daphne and was also awarded the China 1900 medal. During the First World War, he served in HMS Dominion and HMS Crescent.

This collection includes his 1914-15 Star, a brass duty bed plate impressed with his service details "A. H. Adams. R.M.L.I. CH.8052" A pre-WWI portrait in somewhat weathered conditions of Adams in uniform wearing the China medal, A large pre-WWI portrait with Adams wearing his East & West Africa and China 1900 medal ribbons, a pre-WWI double-sided glazed locket with a photo Adams in uniform with his medals on one side and a woman on the reverse (presumably his mother), a group photo aboard HMS Dominion captioned "33. Mess" and "H.M.S. Dominion", (also a RPPC of this same photo) a RPPC of HMS Dominion and another with hand written note "my gun crew" aboard the Dominion. Two other portaits of Adams later in life wearing the uniform of the "Boy's Life Brigade"

Sold with some other family items including a WWI postcard of 2 soldiers in the East Kent Regiment (The Buffs) one of whom appears to be the brother of the above, the WWII-period pay book of Mary Lefevre Adams who served in the ATS as a nurse between 1942 and 1949 and her 1953-54 Ration Booklet. Lastly are 2 small WWII photos of Henry Robert Parker (family connection unknown) and a newspaper clipping of his obituary from 1987.

A very interesting collection of items belonging to a long serving member of the Royal Marine Light Infantry.
