Queen's South Africa Medal with clasps for "Cape Colony, Orange Free State, Transvaal", "South Africa 1901" (32495 Pte. J. H. White. 109th Coy. Imp. Yeo.), Yorkshire Imperial Yeomanry Medal 1900-1902 (32495 Pte. J. H. White)
John Henry White was born in Leeds, Yorkshire. He joined the army underage at 16 to fight in the Boer War and served in the 109th Company of the Yorkshire Imperial Yeomanry. He and his family were early members of the Labour Party in the UK. Struggling to find employment as a result of their political activism, they fled Britain in 1909 and settled in Walpole, Massachusetts, USA. White worked as the town clerk of Walpole for many years and was a life member of the South African War Veterans' Association.
QSA suspension is somewhat slack but solid - no doubt it was often proudly worn at Veterans' Association events.
