Robert Holt was from Bolton, Lancashire. His service in South Africa with the Saint John Ambulance Brigade earned him the Natal clasp the QSA as verified on the medal roll. The remarks on the roll also indicate that he was transferred to the Hospital Ship Nubia in December, 1900. For his service he received both the Queen's South Africa Medal and the Saint John Ambulance Brigade Medal for South Africa. During the First World War, Holt served in the Royal Navy as a Junior Reserve Attendant and saw service at some shore establishments and aboard HMS Carrigan Head.
