Joseph McGill joined the Territorials in August 1914. He was born in West Hartlepool and working as a dock labourer when he attested to the Durham Light Infantry. He served in France and Flanders with the 11th Battalion DLI (Pioneers). He was killed in action on 25 March 1918 and is buried in Bouchoir New British Cemetery, France. His service record survives and is available on Ancestry.
