Notes from a family member state that he joined the army underage to help feed his remaining family members (others had perished during a German bombing of Barrow). He was a member of US-based branches of the Canadian Legion after the war and clearly proudly wore his medals (see digital photo). However, we have found no trace of him in any official WWI records. The medals, whilst originals, are all privately engraved.
